FIFA World Cup Watch Parties Play On in San Diego
Soccer’s biggest tournament continues and there are plenty of out-of-home places to catch “World Cup” fever. Team USA will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the World Cup Round of 32 on Wednesday, July 1 to be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Kickoff: 5 pm PST. Here’s how to celebrate.
La Jolla feature: Triton Center
UC San Diego’s new four-building Triton Center, a $453 million project will open soon and is expected to be the campus hub for both a student body nearing 45,000 and for the many alumni of the school.
The centerpiece of this phase is the six-story Alumni Hall, which will welcome many of UCSD’s 270,000 graduates back to La Jolla. The tower will feature an open-air rooftop terrace.
NASCAR returning to San Diego?
Although it’s not yet official, the NASCAR Weekend at Naval Base Coronado on June 21 was a sellout — and a return race might be expected in 2027 or 2028.
More than 125,000 attended the three days of racing between June 19 and June 21. Corey Heim won the NASCAR Cup Series feature race (250 miles). Bubba Wallace placed second; Kyle Larson finished third on the temporary street and airfield circuit.
